Woven Strap
A flexible, soft-structured woven strap that safely secures delicate-surfaced, irregularly shaped and light-to-medium weight loads.
What Is Woven Strap Used For?
Woven strap (cord strapping) is a soft, flexible securing band woven from high-tenacity polyester yarns. It is the preferred choice for safely securing light-to-medium weight loads such as delicate-surfaced goods, furniture, white goods and irregularly shaped packages.
Elasticity, Surface Protection and Limitations
The key difference of woven strap is that, unlike rigid banded strapping, its woven construction makes softer contact with the load surface and allows it to wrap easily around irregularly shaped or non-angular loads. Although it has high tensile strength, this flexible, soft structure makes it better suited to products that must not be scratched or crushed than to very heavy, rigid industrial loads.

- Lightweight and flexible: Easy to apply by hand, and usable in most situations without special machinery.
- Surface-friendly: Unlike the edges of rigid banded strapping, it carries a lower risk of marking or damaging delicate surfaces.
- High UV resistance: Retains its durability in open-air transport.
Connection Method
Woven strap is most commonly fastened with a ratchet buckle or a cam buckle. The ratchet tie-down strap and ratchet strap set allow high tension to be applied without any extra tools, and because the buckle can be released and re-closed, woven strap can often be reused, unlike single-use PET or steel strapping.
Applications
Typical applications for woven strap include furniture and white goods transport, glass- or wood-surfaced products, irregularly shaped machine parts, and flexible bag/sack loads secured on pallets. Wherever the load surface must not be scratched or crushed, woven strap is preferred over rigid banded strapping.
Points to Consider
- Not recommended as the primary strapping method for very heavy or sharp-edged industrial loads.
- May require more manual labor than PET or composite strapping on high-volume, fully automated strapping lines.
Common Issues
- Insufficient tensioning: If the ratchet buckle does not lock fully, it can lead to gradual loosening during transport.
- Use on the wrong load type: Using woven strap on rigid loads above the manufacturer's specified weight range may not provide adequate securing.
- Wear tracking: In reused woven straps, if yarn wear is not visually inspected, strength can decrease without being noticed.
Storage and Reuse
Woven straps with ratchet buckles can be used multiple times when stored correctly. Rolling them up clean and dry after use prevents the yarn structure from weakening due to moisture or dirt. Before each reuse, it is recommended to check the yarn surface for cuts, wear or fading.
Comparison with Other Strapping Types
Unlike rigid banded steel, PET and composite strapping, woven strap is less a pure "lashing" product and more of a middle-ground solution that provides a reasonable degree of securing while protecting delicate surfaces. For very heavy, rigid palletized loads, the PET or composite strapping options on the category page should be considered.
